Alpha-Gal-Friendly Poached Pears with Cinnamon
Servings: 4
Ingredients:
- 4 ripe pears, peeled, halved, and cored
- 4 cups water, or enough to cover
- 1 cup organic sugar, coconut sugar, or beet sugar (you may need to adjust depending on sweetness)
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- Zest of 1 orange (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the pear halves to the simmering liquid. Reduce heat to low and cover.
- Poach the pears for 15-20 minutes or until they are tender but not falling apart.
- Carefully remove the pears from the liquid and increase the heat. Simmer the syrup until it reduces slightly and thickens.
- Serve the pears warm or chilled, drizzled with the reduced poaching syrup.
Cooking Tip: Add a splash of vanilla extract to the poaching liquid to add an extra depth of flavor. This complements the cinnamon and star anise beautifully.
